Exhibitions

Apart from the ISEA2010 RUHR Exhibition selected from the Call for Proposals, the specially curated exhibition TRUST, and the E-Culture Fair 2010, will be on display at the Dortmund U. The latter is one of ISEA2010's Partner Events.

TRUST, Sat 31 July–Sun 5 September 2010
Dortmund U
Opening: Fri 30 July 2010

TRUST explores our relation to machines and media, which is often marked by an intuitive confidence. On the one hand, our rational reaction to technology and technological media is often characterised by doubt and suspicion: the newspaper is full of half-truths, television is only there to entertain and not to inform, and most apparatuses have negative side-effects. Yet, on the other hand, we rely on these apparatuses to tell us a good story, to convey the truth, to make our lives better, healthier and wholesome. The exhibition aims to trace the aesthetic dimensions of this confidence. The included works challenge the audience's convictions encourage them at the same time to enter into a reflexive dialogue with technology and media systems. The show wants to leave room for an affirmative attitude towards machines and media, pointing to the ethical and emotional dilemmas this may entail.

Including works by Konrad Becker (at), Sophie Bélair Clément (ca), Verena Friedrich (de), Ariel Guzik (mx), Knowbotic Research (ch/at/de), Joan Leandre (es), Julien Maire (de/fr), Seiko Mikami (jp), Naeem Mohaiemen (bd) and many others.

Curated by Andreas Broeckmann and Stefan Riekeles.

TRUST is funded by Kunststiftung NRW (Arts Foundation of North Rhine-Westphalia).
